Yes, if I show attached RealConsole (to any of ConEmu tabs under ssh) accents aren't working in any of the windows (ConEmu/RealConsole). As for the versions (git-for-windows includes the ssh part also): $ git -version git version 2.10.0.windows.1 $ ssh -V OpenSSH7.3p1, OpenSSL 1.0.2h 3 May 2016. I found the culprit In order to make UTF-8 output work in my terminal (output from gradle for instance) I had switched my terminal into UTF-8 mode by putting this under ConEmu Environment: chcp utf-8 As it turns out, if I remove this line, accents work again while under ssh. But then removing it will also break my gradle terminal output which is utf-8. Additional comments From this I gather that what I put in ConEmu Environment gets executed even when I attach external consoles?
To type accents on a PC, press the control and apostrophe buttons at the same time, followed by the vowel you want to add an accent over. If you want to type accents on a Mac, press the option and E buttons at the same time, then release those buttons and type the vowel you want to add an accent to.

Chcp and alias commands has per-console effect. I'm not quite sure if it's correct and expected behavior. Workaround for when I need chcp utf8 You found it.

You are completely right! My mistake was thinking that the environment stuff was not being executed when I attached an external console, so I didn't think much about it. Unfortunately it's not working. Tried both in the console before executing./gradlew taskxxx $ set ConEmuCpCvt=java.exe:850:65001; $./gradlew taskxxx $ set ConEmuCpCvt=gradlew:850:65001; $./gradlew taskxxx Or is this setting for the ConEmu Environment part?
